Our Story
Ashley Valley Veterinary Clinic has been a cornerstone of animal care in Vernal, Utah since the early 1970s. For over 50 years, we have operated from the same location at 85 E 650 N, building deep relationships with the families, ranchers, and farmers who entrust us with their animals' health.
What sets us apart is our ability to serve both small and large animals under one roof. Whether you are bringing in your family dog for a wellness checkup or need herd health services for your cattle operation, our team has the expertise and facilities to provide the care your animals need.

Meet Our Team
Dr. John Mathis, DVM
Veterinarian & Owner
Dr. Mathis graduated from Colorado State University in 1981 and has dedicated over four decades to caring for the animals of the Uintah Basin. He is a federally accredited veterinarian licensed in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Dr. Mathis was named UVMA Veterinarian of the Year in 2010.
Dr. Blaine Whiting, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Whiting brings 37 years of mixed-animal experience. He graduated with honors from Colorado State University and is a member of Phi-Zeta. He began his career in Hermiston, Oregon and co-owned Basin Veterinary Clinic in Roosevelt before joining Ashley Valley.
Dr. Bailey Lucas, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Lucas is the newest member of the veterinary team, graduating from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024. She relocated to the Uintah Basin with her husband Jesse and cat Stella, bringing fresh expertise and enthusiasm to the practice.
NaKiya Curtice, CVT
Certified Veterinary Technician
A Vernal native, NaKiya graduated from Broadview University in Salt Lake City and has been with Ashley Valley Veterinary Clinic since September 2015. She is a dedicated member of the team with years of hands-on experience.
